Dining at Xanadu
Social foraging in our restaurant, nestled away in your private villa, embracing the romantic beach or carried away to a remote island; the story is yours to be told. Special requests for dietary requirements and celebrations will be discussed and catered for – flexibility, individuality, and exclusivity is a part of Xanadu’s cuisine. Selected non-and alcoholic drinks, local beers and a range of house wines are included, while cocktails, premium wines and spirits are available at an extra charge.

Xanadu follows the philosophy of clean, fresh, and healthy cuisine that incorporates the best flavors that Zanzibar has to offer. Our skilled kitchen team delivers world-class du jour menus, freshly prepared, combining skills and well-established culinary practices to the freshest produce available.
Our multinational team of international and local chefs combine their skill-sets and international influences with the freshest, locally sources ingredient for a tailor-made dining experience. Our current team consists of Tanzanian, South African, and Kenyan nationals, creating a fusion of skills and flavors.
Food & ingredient philosophy
With our philosophy comes the promise of good, fresh and healthy meals. How better to ensure this than by growing our own produce, ensuring no insecticides are introduced, and using local skills and love of the land to produce tomatoes, basil, rocket, pumpkin, mint, and parsley to name but a few. Sustainably sourced, organic, healthy and fresh. These are key concepts in the cuisine we offer.

Our Sous Chef trained in Stellenbosch, South Africa, where she studied French cuisine extensively. She has worked in boutique hotels/ restaurants in the wine lands of South Africa, where she worked with various cuisines. Her specialty is Asian/African fusion.
Senior Sous Chef
Our Senior Sous Chef trained in Kenya, where he studied food production. After completing he then worked in various intercontinental hotels, where he managed to master and perfect numerous cuisines such as Indian, Swahili, French & Italian. After years of working in this industry, he is highly skilled in various aspects of the kitchen and would say his specialty is Swahili-French fusion.
Junior Sous Chef
Our Junior Sous Chef trained in the North of Zanzibar, where the focus was primarily on Indian cuisine and seafood. After years of work in the industry, he is well versed in intercontinental cuisine and especially Zanzibar fusion cuisine. This focuses on incorporating island-grown ingredients and using Swahili techniques to create world-class cuisine.
Our Head Chef is Trained in Pretoria, South Africa, where she studied classic French cuisine and perfected her techniques in kitchens around South Africa. She worked greatly with pastry but was able to learn about all sections in the kitchen. She is able to work confidently in any section of the kitchen. Her kitchen focuses on organic farm-to-table, and she loves classic French cuisine.
